Hotel data sources

Basic hotel information (names, locations, coordinates) on this site comes from the open data and APIs listed below. Spec scores and reports are user contributions and are unrelated to these providers.

Separation of external catalog and first-party reviews

We distinguish external hotel information from reviews contributed by users. Reviews are not ratings by Rakuten, Overture or Google. Use or redistribution of external hotel information remains subject to each provider's contract and license.

Rakuten Travel (Japan)

We use Rakuten Web Service (Rakuten Travel API) for information and images of listed hotels in Japan. See the site's region list for current coverage. We do not request a Google Places photo when a usable Rakuten image is available. © Rakuten Group, Inc. https://developers.rakuten.com/

When shown, the reference minimum price is the Rakuten Travel API's estimate per room, per night, including tax and service charges. It is not a quote for selected dates or a specific number of guests. We show when the price was retrieved and hide prices more than 24 hours old. Confirm current rates, availability and discount conditions with the booking provider.

Overture Maps Foundation (international)

Information for international hotels uses the Places dataset from the Overture Maps Foundation. We select facilities and transform records into our site's format. © Overture Maps Foundation — data is provided under the following licenses per contributing source:

Foursquare NOTICE

Notice under the Apache License 2.0: The Foursquare OS Places dataset is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. Attribution to Foursquare Labs, Inc. is preserved for Foursquare-derived data.

Google Maps Platform (photo fallback)

Only when a user searches for a hotel without a Rakuten image, we may use the Google Places API to verify the hotel and reference-display one photo. Google Places is not used as our hotel master, and we do not store or cache the photo or its photo resource name. The UI identifies Google Maps as the source and links to any photo author and the source photo returned by the API.
